XPe boot problems with USB keyboard

    Hello all,

My system works fine when there is a USB keyboard attached at boot.  If I boot without the keyboard attached, the boot time increases dramatically, sometimes to the point where I give up and kill power.  How can I have my keyboard-less system boot as fast and reliably as when there is a keyboard attached?

I don't think it is a BIOS issue.  I put in a duplicate OS entry in the boot.ini, so the OS choices menu shows up.  If I watch the boot process with an attached monitor, without a keyboard, I see the OS choices menu count down to zero and then just sit there for minutes (or longer).  If there is a keyboard attached, it counts down to zero and then immediatly loads XPe.

I saw some comments on this in Google Groups, but no actual solution.  Any ideas?

     Thanks,

    Eli

    Hello Eli,

Does your system use EWF? If so then boot without a keyboard attached and then commit changes. Any furture boots will be normal. If your system is not using EWF can you verify that after one sucessful boot without a keyboard future boots are slow?

    Thanks,
    Brad

    Hi Brad,

Thanks for your suggestions.  It turns out it is a BIOS issue.  I get the same behavior under XP Professional; slow boots without a USB keyboard attached.  I've gone back to my board manufacturer for a fix.

    Thanks,

    Eli

It may be late but this may help someone else.

I was perusing for the same issue and found this product to emulate

or this for the more creative.

I am ordering the keylim for several file sharing servers that don't need any real access.
