    Stop Error 7b CF-card - tried everything....

    Hi all,

We got a stop error 0x0000007b in XP Embedded using a CF card.

The mini-pc boots from cf cards. We "format /s" them (fat32), run bootprep and they start windows xp.
If you try to install windows xp on the disc, it lets you.
It is seen as a hard disc as it is plugged into an cf adapter on the motherboard and it conflicts with a master ide device if you connect one.

The image is made with the "clean xp pro" installation using TAP.EXE while there were no additional drivers nor updates.
We created the SLD file on the information from TAP. Created all the additional components using updated drivers from the manufacturer. We imported all the components in the component database and created the image.

We tried the solution from KB943838, deleting the "gendisk" entry in the registry but to no avail.

I'm now going to make a new image with all the suggested "Standard" ide, isa, pci etc devices.

Anyone have any suggestions? We have the feeling we tried everything...

Kind regards and thank you for your time and effort,

    Richard.

Update: Trying to run the FBA from the CF gives the error of "Load needed DLLs for kernel" even before any graphical screen appears.

Update: We ran FBA from the hard disk with the CF plugged in but also no luck.

    Well, for all those interested:

We had problems with several CF cards because of the BIOS LARGE-LBA TRANSLATION (!!!)

Several cards worked, many didn't, looking at the cards (with the same brand, labels, fabrication numbers and everything) we noted that there was a difference in heads, discs and sectors. Disabling LBA/LARGE translation solved our problems (which we found out after lang days and nights troubleshooting).

In addition we had problems with cards booting to xpe, but giving the "could not find profile" error. This we solved by not copying the files from an ms-dos(7 therefore win98) prompt but from within a windows xp or PE. It seemed that there was a problem with the long names not being copied.

If You ever have a card that seems to have bad sectors or does not boot, don't throw them away yet. Try fdisk, format/s and copy the files all over again and in our case they _ALL_ worked again.

Anyway, hope to be of help to someone being as desperate as we were :)

    Richard.
