Driver problems with Usb to RS232 cable

    Hi,

I'm trying to make an USB to RS232 adapter work on XP Embedded.

The device works great on Windows XP with the driver that was on CD, and works also on Windows 2003 Server without installing any driver but it doesn't work on XPE.

I've built the XPE Component with Component Designer and the I add the component on a working XPE Configuration.

Then i've built the image, i've done the FBA but in the Device Manager I still find "Unknow Device"

Also trying to install the driver manually does not change the result. The best that i reach was viewing the device as "Prolific Usb to Serial Com" (that is correct) but with an error on it and "the device can't work correctly"

Anyone can help me to solve the problem?

Do you need some more information?

    Thank you. Luca

    Hello Luca,

After trying to install the device, take a look at the setupapi.log in \Windows (on the device). The last few entries will be your attempt to install the adapter. Copy and paste the entries here and I'll try to help further, Your probably missing a class installer or co-installer.

    HTH,
    Brad
